Farm & Garden

Do you garden or farm? If so, what do you like to grow? Did any family member have a garden or farm when you were growing up? As a child while living in Belize, my mom loved to garden. Because of the diversity of fresh fruits and vegetables readily available at any season in Belize, she mostly grew flowers. My sister and I had to be so careful jumping off our swing set, since there were beautiful flowers all around its base. We would wait to hear our mom say, “remember to be careful not to step on the flowers”, and then we just giggled.

As I began to grow into my own decisions and life plan, gardening became a principal factor in the spring and summer seasons of my life. I would say the autumn and winter seasons too. And, even when the snow packs so tightly beneath my feet, I know soon, life will come again to my garden.

At Therapeus, with every planning moment, a discussion must be had considering our future gardens on the land we hope to own one day. In these gardens, it is our desire to grow several heirloom varieties of vegetables, fruits, plus culinary and healing herbs, and flowers. On this land we also foresee others who grow healthy food joining us in our space for farmer’s markets, food tastings and pairings, tea parties, herbal healing preparations and demonstrations on culinary use. Yes, our future gardens and farms will not only help serve us, as therapy, and a place to go to escape from the brokenness of the world we reside in, but likewise I know for sure, these gardens will offer us pure and gentle tenderness.

If you are led to help fund the purchase of our own land to bring this form of therapy to the communities we serve, please donate here.

Thanks so much for your support,
